Savinelli St Nicholas 2026 6mm Briar Pipe – 611 Of all the shapes Savinelli could have dressed up for Christmas, the 611 was always going to take rather well to it. The tall Dublin bowl and sweeping bend already have a certain elegance about them; add a little red, green and silver and the job is practically done.
The 611 KS is Savinelli's Bent Dublin, and a King Size one at that. Its defining feature is the tall conical bowl, broadening towards the rim and narrowing as it approaches the heel. From there, the shank rises into a long curved stem, giving the whole pipe a rather handsome forward-leaning stance. Savinelli describes the shape as its Italian interpretation of the traditional Dublin.
For the St Nicholas 2026, that bowl receives a heavily rusticated dark brown finish with rich burgundy-red undertones. The two photographs show just how effective it is on the 611: the tall sides give the rustication plenty of room to develop, with brighter reddish peaks appearing among the darker cuts in the briar. The stem provides the contrast. It's made from pearlescent green acrylic, moving through forest green, emerald and turquoise depending on the light. Between briar and stem sits a ruby-red acrylic band framed by two fine aluminium rings. It's unmistakably Christmassy, yet Savinelli has resisted the temptation to turn the thing into a tree decoration. The same brown, green, red and silver treatment defines the wider 2026 St Nicholas collection.
This is also a fairly substantial pipe. The standard 611 KS measures around 145mm long, with a 51mm-high bowl and a 21mm chamber running approximately 44mm deep. Despite those King Size proportions, Savinelli puts the weight at around 45g.
Our version takes a 6mm filter, and the photographs show a tapered fishtail mouthpiece. It is supplied in Savinelli's pouch and presentation box. There's a great deal to like here. The Dublin is one of the oldest pipe shapes going, the rustication suits it beautifully, and that marbled green stem gives the St Nicholas its bit of seasonal extravagance. Besides, if you're going to smoke a pipe on Christmas Day, it may as well make some effort for the occasion.
