Erik Nørding has always had a knack for making pipes that look as though they've already had a few good stories attached to them. His annual Hunting Pipe series is a fine example, and the 2020 Cheetah edition brings a touch of African plains to a thoroughly Danish pipe.
The bowl wears a deep, rugged rustication that feels reassuring in the hand, while the smooth carved rim and flowing flame-style accents reveal the warm grain beneath. Around the shank sits a handsome hardwood accent before the glossy black acrylic stem finishes things off neatly. It's an eye-catching pipe, though not in that "look at me" sort of way. More the sort that quietly catches your eye from the rack, then refuses to be put back.
It arrives in Nørding's illustrated hunting presentation tube with a pipe sock and leaflet, making it every bit as enjoyable to unwrap as it is to smoke.
Mind you, if your own hunting trips involve stalking the biscuit tin after tea, it'll still do the job just fine.
