Old hands will remember this one by its original name — Chocolate Flake — before the Mayor’s Collection took it under its wing and gave it a fancier title. Don’t let that fool you though, it’s still the same rich, comforting mixture that’s been a Kendal favourite for decades. Made by Samuel Gawith, who’ve been pressing flakes up in Cumbria since the days when tobacco came by horse cart, this blend’s about as traditional as it gets.

The Virginias bring that natural sweetness, the Burley rounds it out, and the cocoa topping ties it all together in a way that’s mellow without turning cloying. It’s not a dessert smoke — it’s more like a mug of cocoa by the fire after a long day, the kind that takes the edge off without asking for thanks. Rub it out or fold it, either way it burns slow and steady, leaving that unmistakable Gawith signature in the room.
