Bagpiper’s Dream leans toward the aromatic end of Rattray’s catalogue, but does so with a degree of refinement. Originally blended to honour the old Scottish pipe bands, it’s now made in Germany to the same house philosophy Charles Rattray began with in 1903: balance, body, and no overdoing it.
The cut is mixed — mostly ribbon, with small cubes of Cavendish that slow the burn and keep it cool. Black Cavendish and Virginias provide the base, gently dressed with a Cognac casing that’s warming rather than sweet. There’s no syrupy aftermath here — just a soft room note and a bit of subtlety.
Ideal for those who want a bit of flavour without stepping into confectionery. It behaves well in the bowl, doesn’t bite unless provoked, and makes a fine second pipe of the evening.
