Peterson Halloween 2026 Rustic Briar Pipe 107 There's a certain pleasure in seeing an old-fashioned pipe shape given an entirely new personality. The Peterson Halloween 2026 Rustic 107 takes one of the most recognisable designs in pipe-making history, dresses it in black, adds a splash of red and produces something that looks ready for a gathering at Dracula's country residence.

The 107 is a Straight Billiard, a shape that has earned its place in pipe racks for well over a century. It's a familiar arrangement: an upright bowl, a straight shank and a tapered stem. Simple in principle, but the proportions make all the difference.

Here, Peterson has chosen a tall, substantial bowl with a strong cylindrical outline. The shank extends horizontally from its base, meeting a long, polished black stem that gives the pipe an elegant, balanced silhouette.

The real character, however, comes from the black rusticated finish.

Peterson has carved the briar into an irregular pattern of deep grooves, raised ridges and rugged hollows. Some sections resemble overlapping pieces of bark, while others have a more craggy, almost volcanic appearance.

It's a particularly effective treatment on a Straight Billiard. The tall bowl provides a generous canvas for the rustication, allowing the carved patterns to develop across the entire surface. Even the rim has been left with an uneven, textured edge that suits the design beautifully.

The shank carries the same black finish, extending the rugged appearance towards the stem. And that's where the Halloween theme really comes into its own.

Between the briar and the mouthpiece sits a glossy red acrylic band, decorated with flowing black lines. The red has a rich, almost scarlet appearance, and the dark swirls create an attractive marbled effect.

Against the black briar, it's a striking combination. It reminds me rather of the red sealing wax that used to appear on important correspondence, although I suspect Peterson had something rather more sinister in mind.

The polished black stem provides a pleasing contrast to the rough surface of the bowl. It tapers gradually towards a fishtail mouthpiece, while a small red Peterson P emblem adds a final touch of colour.

Peterson's history stretches back to nineteenth-century Dublin, where the company established a reputation for distinctive pipe shapes and practical craftsmanship. The familiar Billiard has remained an important part of that tradition, appearing in numerous finishes and variations over the years.

For the Halloween 2026 collection, Peterson has taken that dependable shape and given it a rather theatrical appearance. Yet underneath the seasonal colours, the 107 remains a traditional Straight Billiard, with the familiar proportions that have made the design so enduring.

The two photographs are worth studying. One shows the red Peterson emblem on the stem, while the other reveals the opposite side of the briar, where the rustication forms a different arrangement of ridges and hollows. The black swirls in the red band are particularly attractive from either angle.

And while Halloween may only occupy one evening on the calendar, there's no reason this pipe should spend the remaining eleven months tucked away in a drawer. Black briar and red acrylic make a handsome combination at any time of year.

I rather like a pipe that looks as though it might have a mysterious past. Although if this one starts moving about the shop by itself, it'll be going straight back in its box. I've enough trouble keeping track of the stock as it is.
