La Galera La Galera is the work of José “Jochy” Blanco — one of the Dominican Republic’s quiet masters of the leaf. His factory in Tamboril, Tabacalera Palma, has been rolling since 1936, and the name “La Galera” pays homage to the rolling room itself — the heart of any cigar house worth its salt. That’s where craft, patience and discipline come together in rhythm — the soft tap of tobacco and the low hum of conversation that’s gone unchanged for generations.
Connecticut The Connecticut series shows Blanco’s lighter hand — a golden Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper laid over a Dominican Piloto Cubano binder and long fillers of Piloto and Criollo ’98. It’s creamy, nutty and just a touch sweet on the draw, with a polished undercurrent of oak and fresh hay. This Half Corona size keeps the flavours bright and concise, perfect for a midday smoke or those moments when you don’t want to rush a Churchill but still want something with character.
Smoking Experience It opens with a soft cream and light toast on the palate — gentle and civilised but not dull. By the mid-point you’ll find the Dominican tobaccos asserting themselves with a sweet grain and a hint of pepper. The final third tightens up nicely — more wood, a touch of caramelised coffee, and a surprisingly long finish for such a small cigar. An ideal companion for a short stroll or a quiet cup of coffee on a cool morning.
Cellophane Wrapped Cigars: Each Half Corona comes individually sealed within the tin to retain freshness. They’ll keep nicely for a few weeks in a cool, dark cupboard but if you’re the sort to savour them over months, pop the tin in a humidor to keep the Connecticut’s subtlety alive.
Preperation The La Galera Connecticut Half Corona is a premium hand-rolled Dominican cigar and will need to be cut or punched before lighting. A sharp guillotine cut just above the shoulder will do nicely — then light slowly and draw gently.
