Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1882 Founder’s Blend Pipe Tobacco
1882 marks the year the Stokkebye tobacco business began in Denmark, and Founder’s Blend is the mixture tied to that date. Fair enough too, because it’s got a bit more backbone than the aromatic side of the range and feels like it was made for people who want tobacco first and everything else afterwards.
This is a ribbon-cut English mixture made from Latakia, Orientals, mature Virginias and full-bodied Burley. The Latakia gives it the smoky depth, the Orientals bring that dry, savoury edge, the Virginias keep some natural sweetness in the bowl, and the Kentucky gives it weight and structure.
It packs easily enough and settles into a rich, steady smoke when treated properly. Fuller in character than the sweeter 4th Generation blends, but still balanced. Not a mixture that flaps about trying to impress you — it just gets on with the job.
