VegaFina have always been a dependable name—approachable, well-made, and easy to get along with. The 1998 La Romana line is where they stretch their legs a bit.
Created to mark the year the brand began, this range leans into a more refined blend, using tobaccos aged for several years and put together by the Grupo de Maestros at Tabacalera de García. It’s still unmistakably VegaFina, but there’s more depth here—more going on beneath the surface.
The VF 54 is a proper, comfortable size. Enough girth to let the blend open up, without becoming a chore. It sits nicely in the hand and gives you time to settle into it.
From the first light, it’s smooth—creamy, lightly sweet, with a touch of cedar. Give it a bit of patience and it starts to build: coffee, toasted nuts, a gentle spice, and the sort of rounded sweetness that keeps everything in balance. Nothing sharp, nothing rushed—just a steady, well-mannered progression.
The Ecuadorian Habano wrapper adds a bit of richness to the usual VegaFina profile, bringing in those darker notes without tipping it into anything heavy. It’s still very much a medium-bodied cigar, just with a bit more substance behind it.
Construction is exactly what you’d expect from La Romana—clean burn, easy draw, and consistent from start to finish.
This is one for when you want something reliable, but not forgettable. Easy enough to enjoy without thinking too much about it—but interesting enough that you probably will.
