Talamona pipes come out of Italy under Paolo Croci, a maker who clearly enjoys giving a pipe a bit of presence rather than fussing over unnecessary decoration. The Sabbiato line carries a warm sandblasted finish that brings the grain forward nicely and gives the pipe a bit of texture in the hand.

This one sits in a straight pot shape, broad across the bowl with plenty of chamber and a solid stance on the table. The blast has pulled out a lively pattern across the briar too, giving the bowl that rippled look that shows the wood had something to say before the carver even started.

A clean black acrylic stem keeps the line tidy and houses a 9mm filter, which suits those who prefer a slightly cooler, drier smoke.
