Talamona pipes are made in Italy by Paolo Croci — a fellow who clearly prefers shaping pipes with a bit of personality rather than stamping out endless rows of identical billiards. The Toscano line leans into that Italian sensibility rather nicely.
This one’s carved from olivewood, which is a bit different from your usual briar. Lighter in colour, warm honey tones running through it, and grain that wanders about in its own direction like it’s got somewhere better to be. No two pieces ever really come out the same, which is half the charm.
The bowl sits forward in a canted egg shape, giving it that slightly nose-down stance that looks as though it’s leaning forward to hear what you’re saying. Comfortable in the hand too — rounded where it needs to be.
Finished off with a polished acrylic stem that keeps things tidy.
Not a pipe that tries overly hard to impress with shiny bits or unnecessary decoration. Just cracking wood, a sensible shape, and the quiet confidence of something made by a man who knows his craft.
