Savinelli St. Nicholas 2026 6mm Briar Pipe – 642 Christmas pipes can go one of two ways. You can add so much red, green and gold that the thing looks as though it ought to have batteries in it, or you can exercise a little restraint.

Savinelli has thankfully chosen the latter.

The St. Nicholas is the Italian maker's seasonal Christmas series, and the 2026 edition pairs a dark brown rusticated briar with a wonderfully rich pearlescent green acrylic stem. Between the two sits a narrow red acrylic band bordered by slim aluminium rings — enough red and green to make the point, but not so much that Father Christmas needs to be stamped on the bowl.

This particular pipe is Savinelli's 642, an unusually full Bent Apple with more than a hint of traditional Irish shaping about it. Savinelli itself describes the 642 as an unconventional Apple: the rounded bowl runs into a substantial cylindrical shank before sweeping sharply upwards through the stem. That pronounced bend also makes the shape particularly comfortable in the mouth.

And it looks especially good in this finish. The photographs show a deep reddish-brown stain worked into the rusticated briar, leaving darker recesses and warmer highlights across that broad, rounded bowl. Against it, the green stem is terrific — dark forest green along one edge, brighter emerald and almost turquoise where the pearlescent material catches the light.

The junction between the two deserves a mention as well. A Christmas-red acrylic ring sits between two fine aluminium bands, giving a neat flash of colour at the shank. It's a small detail, but one that ties the brown and green together rather nicely.

This is the 6mm version, allowing the use of Savinelli's 6mm balsa system or compatible 6mm filters.

Savinelli has been producing the St. Nicholas as a seasonal tradition for years, but changing the treatment annually keeps them interesting. The 2026 combination is particularly handsome.

Festive enough for Christmas, handsome enough that you won't feel daft smoking it in March.
