Savinelli 150th Anniversary Limited Edition Pipe Tobacco – 100g Tin A hundred and fifty years is a remarkable innings for any business, particularly one in the tobacco trade. Savinelli began in 1876, when Achille Savinelli opened his shop in Milan, selling pipes and tobacco to the city's gentlemen. Five generations later, the family name remains one of the most respected in Italian pipe making.
To celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2026, Savinelli has produced this limited-edition aromatic tobacco, presented in a rather handsome navy-blue commemorative tin.
The mixture brings together Virginia, Broken Virginia, Burley and Black Cavendish. The Virginias provide natural sweetness, Burley contributes a nutty depth, and the Black Cavendish lends a soft, rounded character.
The flavouring is a combination of honey, vanilla and nuts. Honey provides the leading sweetness, supported by creamy vanilla and a gentle roasted-nut character that complements the Burley particularly well.
It's a medium-strength tobacco, although the aromatic flavouring is considerably more pronounced. Expect a sweet, full-flavoured mixture with a rich room note. The commemorative tin deserves a mention of its own. Finished in deep Savinelli blue with gold lettering, it marks the company's founding year of 1876 and its century and a half in business.
I rather like anniversary editions that have some genuine history behind them. Achille Savinelli could scarcely have imagined his little Milanese shop would still be remembered in 2026, let alone celebrated by pipe smokers around the world. Mind you, if he'd known what a tin of tobacco would cost 150 years later, I suspect he'd have needed a chair and a stiff drink.
