Chacom Pipes (St Claude) Chacom is a family owned company who can trace their pipe making heritage to 1825 before Briar was even discovered. They are based in St Claude which is widely recognised as the pipe making capital of the world. They are one of very few pipe manufacturers who make pipes from start to finish. From ageing the Briar right through to hand finishing.

Chacom Select Freehand Pipes Chacom are not widely known for their freehand pipes but quite predictably for a company of it’s heritage and experience it is something they excel at. Every now and then the pipe graders come across an exceptional block of Briar and feel that it should be made into something much more special than the general shape range that makes up 95% of their production. So on special days the carvers are given free reign to let their creative juices loose!

The 09 is a stunning example of such a pipe and you will be hard pressed to find a freehand that epitomises the freehand label better than this pipe. A flawless flame rain ecompasses the entire bowl as if it has been painted on the bowl. The burl on the rim shows the true quality of this piece as you can see the detail of how tight and uniformed the grain is from the outer cross section. This will be a very heat resilient and cool smoking pipe as well as a stunning piece of eye candy.

The pipe is finished with a Black band and acrylic saddle stem inlaid with a metal Chacom logo and matching Briar band.

Filter Choice The Chacom Select 09 pipe can be smoked with a condensing filter (included) or a 9mm absorbent filter. The larger diameter of a 9mm filter allows more smoke to pass through the filter, with less restriction, which makes for a better draw compared to the 6mm filters. The highly absorbent filters have a very high surface area resulting in excellent absorption of the tar as the smoke passes through without affecting draw or flavour. The pipes have a standard 9mm bore so can be used with any brand of 9mm filter if preferred. Alternatively the filter can be removed altogether for smokers who prefer a totally un-restricted full on smoke.
