The Macanudo Estate Reserve French Oak Churchill 2021 is presented here in a full box of 10 cigars — which is fortunate really, because after the first one it becomes remarkably difficult to leave the rest alone.
This limited Estate Reserve release uses tobaccos aged in French Oak barrels that previously matured an award-winning 2021 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s an unusual process, but a genuinely clever one. The tobacco slowly absorbs subtle characteristics from both the wine and the oak itself, giving the cigar a depth and smoothness you don’t often come across.
And 2021 happened to be an exceptional vintage in Napa Valley. Cooler temperatures and reduced rainfall created a particularly distinctive wine profile, which carries through delicately into the cigar during the barrel-ageing process.
The result is a wonderfully refined Churchill with notes of cedar, vanilla and roasted nuts, supported by a creamy smoothness that develops beautifully as the cigar progresses. There’s richness here, but it’s polished rather than overpowering — more refined oak and soft warmth than brute strength.
The Churchill format suits the blend perfectly, giving those barrel-aged flavours time to open gradually over a long, cool smoke. This is very much a cigar for slow evenings, decent company and preferably a drink worth pouring properly.
Presented in a full box of 10 cigars, the Macanudo Estate Reserve French Oak makes an excellent addition to any humidor for smokers who appreciate subtle complexity and beautifully balanced flavour.
A sophisticated limited-edition cigar with genuine wine-barrel character and exceptional smoothness throughout.
