Gawith Hoggarth have been making tobacco in Kendal since the 1800s—proper Lakeland country, stone floors, presses older than most buildings, and methods that haven’t been messed about with just for the sake of it. This S Type twist is about as traditional as it gets. Hand-twisted rope tobacco, dark, oily, and packed tighter than a Yorkshireman’s wallet.

This Liquorice version brings a lovely depth to it. You’ve got that rich, earthy tobacco at the core—deep, slow-burning, full of body—but running through it is that unmistakable liquorice note. Not sharp or sugary, mind… more of a dark, rounded sweetness that sits quietly in the background and keeps things interesting all the way through.

You slice it yourself, as thick or thin as you fancy. Bit of effort involved, but that’s half the charm.
