To the uninitiated, Perique may seem a peculiar addition. It’s a rare leaf, pressure-fermented in oak barrels and cultivated only in a small corner of Louisiana. Historically, the Choctaw and early Acadian settlers used this method to preserve leaf over long, damp seasons — and what emerged was something peppery, dark, and full of intrigue. Here, it cuts beautifully through the golden hay and citrus of the Virginia, adding a fruity spice and a nose-tingling richness that rewards a slower draw.
