Joya de Nicaragua has been working from Estelí since 1968, and the Antaño 1970 is a cigar with its eyes firmly on the company's earlier years. The blend was introduced as a tribute to the strong Nicaraguan cigars that helped establish the factory's reputation during the 1970s, and it remains one of Joya's decidedly fuller offerings.
The Antaño 1970 Coronet is a Nicaraguan puro, combining Nicaraguan filler and binder with a Habano Criollo wrapper. Despite the smaller Coronet format, this is not a mild little cigar. There is considerable depth here, with earthy tobacco, dark coffee, wood and pepper accompanied by a touch of natural sweetness as the smoke develops.
Its slim proportions make the Coronet a useful way of enjoying the Antaño character without committing to one of the larger vitolas. Strong, traditional and unmistakably Nicaraguan, it is a small cigar carrying a rather substantial piece of Joya de Nicaragua's history.
