Thirty-five years is a significant milestone, and Gurkha has marked the occasion with a cigar that places considerable emphasis on its tobacco, construction and presentation.
The Gurkha 35th Anniversary Toro celebrates the modern brand's revival in 1989 under Kaizad Hansotia. Handmade at the El Artista factory in the Dominican Republic, it combines an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Indonesian binder and Nicaraguan Criollo '98 filler from Estelí.
The result is a refined, medium-bodied cigar with earthy richness, toasted nuts, cedar and a measured touch of spice. At 6 inches long with a 54 ring gauge, the Toro offers generous proportions and a flavour profile that develops gradually.
The presentation is especially attractive. Ten individually cellophane-wrapped cigars rest in a handsome black wooden box, each carrying an elaborate commemorative portrait band and a secondary 35th Anniversary band. Inside the lid, illustrated artwork and anniversary detailing recall Gurkha's long association with elaborate cigar presentation.
Originally introduced in 2023 as part of a commemorative humidor collection, the blend subsequently became available in boxes of ten.
Gurkha has built a reputation for doing things on a grand scale. Here, the elaborate packaging accompanies a thoughtfully composed cigar with a distinctive anniversary pedigree.
