In 1936 Falcon raised the game and rocked the pipe world with the introduction of the spiralling aluminium stem and removable briar bowl. In the pipe world this was the equivalent of un strapping the horses from your carriage, burning your hay stack, sacking your stable master and strapping a combustion engine to the axle!
Ever since Falcon has dominated the cost effective pipe market but with the increase of the price of raw materials Falcon has decided to offer a cost effective straight full briar pipe.
The new Falcon Coolway is not a high end hand carved briar pipe but it is a good quality Briar pipe ideal for the novice pipe smoker or for those of you who seem to be able to break a pipe just by looking at it. They don’t require extensive breaking in and they are a good size to offer a cool and smooth smoke.
Falcon Coolway 103
The Falcon Coolway No.103 is a classic full bent apple briar pipe with a saddle stem. Slightly shallower than the 21 for a lighter option with thicker walls for a more robust pipe. The Apple shaped bowl is arguable the most comfortable bowl shape and the thickness of the briar wall is thickest at the point where a pipe overheats most helping to keep the pipe cool. A cooler pipe will smoke sweeter, cooler and smoother. Bent stems are generally more popular and it’s not solely down to Sherlock Holmes. The exaggerated curve gives the smoke longer to cool down and the exaggerated curve naturally forms condensation, which helps remove moisture and impurities from the smoke.
9mm Absorbent Filter
The Falcon Coolway Briar pipes are designed for use with the Falcon 9mm absorbent stem filters but any 9mm filter can be used if wished. The Falcon Stem filters are shaped to allow channels of unrestricted smooth smoke whilst the high surface area over the thousands of little hairs absorbs the maximum amount impurities and moisture from the smoke.
