Crowned Heads Mil Días Topes – Single Loose Cigar A thousand days. That's what Mil Días means in Spanish, and it's a rather fitting name for a cigar that owes its existence to patience.

Crowned Heads began developing the blend in 2017, working through numerous variations before settling on the finished recipe. By the time Mil Días made its debut in 2020, the project had been taking shape for roughly a thousand days. An unusually long courtship, you might say, but some things are worth taking your time over.

The Mil Días Topes is a generously proportioned cigar, wrapped in an attractive medium-brown leaf with a natural, slightly rustic appearance. Its cream and gold bands carry the familiar Crowned Heads emblem in red, while a bright red ribbon around the foot gives the cigar a particularly handsome finish.

The blend brings together tobaccos from several growing regions, creating a layered character with the earthy richness and spice associated with fine Nicaraguan cigars.

The Topes is a substantial format, giving the tobacco blend room to develop its different flavours as the cigar progresses. Expect a combination of wood, pepper, toasted nuts and creamy notes, with a little sweetness to balance the richer elements.

There's a good deal of history behind Crowned Heads itself. Established in Nashville in 2011 by Jon Huber and Mike Conder, the company has built its reputation on distinctive blends and an appreciation for traditional cigar making.

I particularly like the story behind Mil Días. In an age when everything seems to be wanted by yesterday, it's rather refreshing to find a cigar named after the time spent getting it right.

Mind you, if I took a thousand days to decide which cigar to smoke, I'd have a queue stretching halfway down Westborough.
