Cornell & Diehl Briar Fox
Briar Fox is one of Cornell & Diehl’s older mixtures, and it shows in the best way. It’s a simple partnership of red Virginia and Burley, pressed into a dense plug and left to speak for itself.
There’s no topping here. No perfume drifting about. Just honest leaf. The red Virginia brings a natural sweetness — dark fruit and a bit of tang — while the Burley adds body, dryness, and that faint cocoa note you only get from good, sturdy leaf.
Being pressed, it rewards a bit of patience. Break off what you need, rub it gently, and let it breathe for a few minutes. Once lit, it settles into a steady, earthy smoke with depth rather than flash. It doesn’t leap about trying to impress you. It just keeps going, cool and measured, if you treat it properly.
Cornell & Diehl have always favoured straightforward blending over theatrics, and Briar Fox fits that approach perfectly. It’s the sort of mixture that becomes a regular without ever announcing itself as one.
Best enjoyed when you’ve got time to sit still and let it do its work.
