Butz-Choquin Prairial 1601 Briar Pipe The Prairial series takes its name from one of the spring months in the old French Republican calendar — a fitting nod from Butz-Choquin, who’ve been plying their trade in Saint-Claude since 1858. The 1601 is a straight billiard, clean and simple, but there’s something quietly handsome about it. The briar’s finished in a dark green almost black stain, polished up to a showroom shine. The black acrylic stem keeps things modern without spoiling the traditional lines, and the 9mm filter makes for a cool, easy draw. There’s a touch of the pastoral about this one — rustic name, honest shape, and no flash or fuss.
