A superb expression of Brebbia’s sculptural Italian style, the Pipa First 1997 Rocciata Chiara captures the maker’s flair for tactile finishes and balanced proportions. The bowl rises in a graceful horn-like sweep, rusticated in their pale “Rocciata Chiara” texture — a finish that recalls warm sandstone, with a glow that’s accentuated by the hand-polished rim and shank. The sweeping curvature meets a broad silver mount, hand-engraved and hallmarked, setting off the natural hues of the briar beautifully.
The silver mount and deep bend give this pipe an old-world dignity, yet it feels unmistakably Italian — fluid, expressive, and light in the hand. The 9mm filter offers a cool, clean draw, while the acrylic stem’s taper keeps it comfortable in the mouth. A fine example of Brebbia’s commitment to handwork, still carried out on the same antique lathes used since the company’s founding in 1947.
