Barling Benjamin The Very Finest 9mm Rhodesian Briar Pipe
Barling is one of those proper old English names — founded in 1812 and built on doing things the right way rather than the loud way. Good briar, sensible shaping, and pipes that are meant to be smoked, not just looked at.
The Benjamin range keeps that tradition ticking along nicely. Classic English shapes, clean finishes, and no unnecessary theatrics — just dependable pipes that feel right from the first hold.
This 1817 is a Rhodesian, and a nicely executed one at that. You’ve got the characterful twin bead lines around the bowl, paired with a slightly more compact, rounded profile that sits somewhere between a billiard and something a bit more expressive.
Finished in the “Very Finest” smooth polish, the briar shows a warm reddish tone with lively grain throughout, complemented by a black acrylic stem and a neat metal band that adds just enough contrast without overdoing it.
It’s a shape with a bit of personality, but still very much grounded in tradition — an easy choice if you like your pipes classic, but not entirely predictable.
