Barling Benjamin The Very Finest 9mm Curved Apple Briar Pipe
Barling is one of those proper old English names — established back in 1812 and built on doing things correctly rather than loudly. Their pipes have always leaned toward clean shaping, good briar, and a sense that they’re meant to be used, not just admired.
The Benjamin line carries that thinking forward. Traditional shapes, sensible proportions, and finishes that don’t try too hard to impress you — they just get on with it.
This 1816 is a curved apple, and it’s a good example of why that shape sticks around. The bowl is nicely rounded, giving it a softer, fuller look compared to a billiard, and it sits comfortably in the hand without feeling bulky.
The “Very Finest” smooth finish brings out a warm, reddish tone in the briar, with grain showing through just enough to keep things interesting. Paired with the black acrylic stem and subtle band, it keeps everything neat and properly balanced.
It’s an easy pipe to like. Comfortable, familiar, and just that little bit more relaxed in character than the sharper, straighter shapes.
