CHURCHWARDEN vs PORTABLE It is often a debate many pipe smoker enter into every time they walk into their local tobacconist. It is well know that the longer the stem, the bigger and thicker the bowl, the cooler the pipe will smoke. The problem being, that a 30cm pipe all though very effective cannot be carried in the pocket and as that anti smoking activist who had a go at you, passes in the street the temptation to accidentally poke them in the eye with burning embers can prove a little overwhelming. So, do you go small and convenient, large and restrictive or empty your wallet with the expense of two quality briar pipes? The Stanwell Hans Black & White pipe range are supplied with two stems. A longer stem for an evening with a book in your favourite armchair and a standard stem for general use.

Stanwell Black & White 407 The Stanwell Black and White 407 is a totally new offering from one of Stanwells master craftsmen who was obviously having a good day when they created the 402 and 407! The 407 is a similar shape to the 402 but a bit lighter on Briar and is more shaped on the front of the pipe. From above the bowl looks like a rugby ball, which not only looks different but is very comfortable in the hand for both lefties and righties! The pipe is finished in a stunning Black Matte stain with a stunning ivory effect tapered peg as the standard stem and a tapered Black semi Churchwarden stem and two embedded white rings. Both stems are made from the more popular Acrylic choice for long lasting without staining.

9mm Absorbent Filter The Stanwell Black & White pipes are designed for use with the any 9mm absorbent stem filters. The larger diameter allows more smoke to pass through the filter, with less restriction, which makes for a better draw compared to the 6mm filters. The highly absorbent filters have a very high surface area resulting in excellent absorption of the tar as the smoke passes through without affecting draw or flavour.

The pipes have a standard 9mm bore so can be used with any brand of 9mm filter or will accept a 9mm adaptor if you wish to convert it to a condensing filter. Alternatively the filter can be removed all together for smokers who prefer a totally un-restricted full on smoke.
