Peterson 160th Anniversary Sandblasted Bent Billiard Now this… this is Peterson showing a slightly different side of themselves.
Same roots, same history — still that Dublin workshop lineage stretching all the way back to 1865, when Charles Peterson and the Kapp brothers set the whole thing in motion — but here, instead of the rugged, chunkier rustication, you’ve got a proper sandblast. And it changes the character in a lovely way.
Peterson have always been about more than just appearances. From the early days of the System pipes, everything they did had a purpose — improving the smoke, making things more comfortable, more reliable. That thinking hasn’t gone anywhere. Even now, every shape and finish still feels like it’s been chosen for a reason, not just because it looks good in a catalogue.
This 1272 bent billiard is a cracking example of that balance.
It’s a slightly more upright, fuller bowl compared to some of the lower-slung shapes — gives it a bit of presence in the hand, a bit of confidence about it. The bend is smooth and natural, not overdone, just enough to make it sit comfortably whether you’re holding it or letting it hang.
Now the sandblast — that’s where this one really earns its keep.
Instead of the deeper, more random texture of rustication, this has that layered, ring-grain feel running through it. You can see the growth of the briar, almost like topographical lines, and it gives the pipe a quieter sort of character. Still tactile, still interesting — just a bit more refined, a bit more understated.
The darker finish works beautifully with it too. It lets the texture do the talking, with just enough variation to catch the light without turning it into a showpiece.
And then — as ever — that silver band. Clean, bright, and bang in the right place. Breaks things up nicely and gives the whole pipe a bit of lift without taking anything away from the briar.
The stem’s classic Peterson — flowing, comfortable, and properly balanced against the bowl. Nothing awkward, nothing forced. Just feels right.
All told, this is one for someone who appreciates the quieter details. It’s not trying to grab attention — it doesn’t need to. Spend a bit of time with it, and it reveals itself properly.
