Peterson 160th Anniversary Rusticated Bent Billiard Peterson don’t get to 160 years by accident. That sort of longevity comes from doing things properly, year after year, without losing sight of what made people pick up your pipes in the first place.

It all started back in Dublin in 1865, when Charles Peterson teamed up with the Kapp brothers. Now Charles weren’t just a pipe maker — he was an inventor at heart. His work on the Peterson System pipe changed the game, giving smokers a drier, cooler experience at a time when pipes could be a bit… temperamental, let’s say. That practical thinking — making something that actually works better, not just looks nice — has been baked into Peterson ever since.

They’ve kept that balance over the decades. Tradition, yes — but never stuck in the past. You pick up a Peterson and there’s a quiet confidence to it. It knows exactly what it is.

This 160th Anniversary bent billiard is a lovely example of that.

It’s got a slightly more compact, rounded presence than some of the longer bent shapes — feels solid in the hand, like it’s been made to be used rather than admired from a distance. The bend is just right too — sits naturally, easy in the jaw, no fighting it.

The rusticated finish is proper tactile stuff. Deep, craggy texture with those warm red tones peeking through the darker stain — gives it a bit of life, a bit of character. No two bits of briar ever come out quite the same, and Peterson lean into that rather than smoothing it all away.

Then there’s that silver band, clean and bright, tying the whole thing together. It lifts the pipe without making a song and dance about it — just a quiet reminder that this is something made with care.

The stem flows beautifully into the bowl, classic Peterson shaping — comfortable, well-balanced, and just right whether you’re holding it or letting it hang.

All in, this is one of those pipes that feels like it’s got a bit of history behind it — because it has — but it’s still very much made for today. You light it up, settle in, and it just gets on with the job in the best possible way.
