Montecristo Double Edmundo Montecristo is one of those names that doesn’t need much introduction, but it’s worth knowing where it comes from all the same. Founded in 1935, the brand took its name from The Count of Monte Cristo, a novel that was regularly read aloud to the torcedores in the factory. That little detail stuck, and before long the name became one of the most recognised in the cigar world. Over time, Montecristo built its reputation on rich, dependable blends — a bit fuller, a bit more direct, and always satisfying.

The Double Edmundo is very much a modern extension of that idea. It takes the well-known Edmundo format and stretches it out, giving you more time with the cigar and a bit more room for the flavours to develop. In a box of 10, you’ve got the benefit of consistency straight away, but also the option to let a few sit and mellow — and they do come along nicely with a bit of age.

From the first light, it’s unmistakably Montecristo. You’re met with that familiar cocoa and coffee backbone, proper rich without being overbearing. There’s a layer of earth and spice running alongside it, and as it settles, a touch of sweetness starts to come through — nothing sugary, just enough to round things off.

As it moves into the middle, it builds a little more weight. The flavours deepen rather than change direction — more roasted notes, a bit more body — but it stays controlled. That’s the thing with this cigar: it’s got presence, but it knows where the line is.

Strength sits in that medium to full bracket, giving it a bit more punch than something like an Upmann, but it never tips into anything harsh or tiring. It’s a proper, satisfying smoke that holds your attention without demanding it.

Construction is exactly what you’d expect from Montecristo — firm, well rolled, and consistent across the box. Good draw, steady burn, and plenty of smoke without any effort.

All in, the Double Edmundo is a cracking example of modern Cuban blending done properly. Plenty of flavour, plenty of time to enjoy it, and a box that’ll serve you well whether you’re dipping in now or putting a few away for later.
