Falcon Meerschaum Bowls There has been a shortage of Falcon Meerschaum bowls in recent years and we get asked for them more times than I wish to remember, so when we saw these at a recent trade show we were the first on the stall and snapped them up. Sourced from the most prestigious Meerschaum mine in the Levent region, they are made from Sarisu blocks which is considered the finest grade of Meerschaum in Turkey. The carving on them is exceptional and has been undertaken by some of the best Meerschaum carvers in the business. The Meerschaum bowls are fitted with a high density acrylic thread to keep the connection snug and airtight. Meerschaum, also known as Sea Foam is a naturally formed clay which is considered the most porous naturally occurring material on the planet. This highly porous nature clay is ideal for pipe smoking as it acts like a filter removing tar and impurities from the smoke as well as allowing the pipe to breath which helps it smoke cooler and sweeter. It does not burn so your Meerschaum does not need breaking in or reaming. If you look after your Meerschaum you will be able to witness the bowl curing over years as the natural oils from the tobacco are absorbed into the clay revealing deep reds and golden browns. A well carved meerschaum will really show its true quality as deeper carvings will be enhanced by deeper shades where thicker parts of the pipe will stay more Golden. The bowls, being made of clay, are relatively brittle so should never tapped out like you might do a briar pipe. (which, incidentally, you should never do either) so if looked after properly should last you many many years to come.
