The calabash shape has always carried a certain reputation—usually attached to oversized, theatrical affairs better suited to the stage than the pocket. This, thankfully, is not one of those.

Dr Plumb have taken the essence of the form—the forward cant, the gentle sweep, the sense of balance—and kept it within sensible proportions. The result is a pipe that retains a bit of character without becoming a nuisance to handle.

The bowl sits slightly forward, giving it that familiar calabash posture, while the curve through the stem brings the weight back into line. It makes for a comfortable hold, and a surprisingly easy clench if you’re inclined that way.

The meerschaum lining is the practical heart of it. You’ll get a clean, even smoke from the first fill, without the usual business of building a cake. It’s a sensible arrangement—particularly for those who prefer to rotate pipes rather than dedicate themselves to just one.

It takes a 9mm filter, offering a cooler, drier smoke if that suits you. As always, optional—but useful.
